I have found lots of sites on how to build a picavet suspension
system. I think that I can build one but none of the information that
I have found tells how to use them. Does the camera connected to the
cross somehow automatically climb up the kite string from the ground.
If not how do you get the camera up to the kite?

Hello!

You first unroll some (for example 100ft of the line), then attach
camera on picavet, then unroll more as required for your photo. Camera
is never up to the kite, it's allways that 100ft (or other distance, as
you attached the thing) down the line.
