Hello! I recently subscribed to this group, but not much has been going on.
I was at the beach a couple of weeks ago and at the times when it was
permissible to fly a kite, the winds were almost non-existent. Very
disappointing. I was expecting that I'd be able to send up the kite any
time I wanted to. Oh well.

Unfortunately, I do not live near a beach and in fact it is difficult to
find a good place to fly a kite here in Warsaw, Poland. I recently
bought a used low wind/no wind Ozone by Prism so I wil try it at the
nearest sports field. Meanwhile I try flying at some heavily weed
overgrown fields. If you want to have a look at it, you can find it
here: fly.home.pl/pub/elixir_01.jpg

Nice shot. I'm not too close to the beach either, but manage to get there
once or twice a year. I see you have a stunt kite. Mine is a flowform that
I bought for lifting a camera to take aerial photos. I've only had two
flights where I was able to get a few decent pictures.

Can you show us the pictures and write something more about the camera
and how you attach it to the kite and so on?

Wlady
Sure. The camera is not attached to the kite, but rather to a mechanism
that is suspended from the kite line at two points. You send the kite up to
a height that seems stable and consistent, and then you attach the camera
rig to the line and let the kite out further to hoist the camera. My rig
has two servos that automatically rotate the camera and press the shutter
button. Here is a link to a some pictures that I've taken, as well as
pictures of the camera and rig:

This is the site where I got the rig and kite from:

The pictures of our kite rig looks like the servo. that presses the
shutter release. is suspended in midair. What is that all about?

The sesrvos are not the mini servos, are they? Did yo have to modify
them in any way?

On the left side of the server, there are screws that attach the servo to a
vertical piece of angled metal that is attached to the back of the plate
where the camera attaches. The angle of the shot obscures this, but I can
assure you that it is attached. :-) I should have taken a shot from the
back of the rig as well.

I think they are regular model airplane type servos and not mini servos, but
I don't know for sure. In the kit that I purchased, the top servo was
already modified so that it could rotate 360 degrees, but it required
further modifications to use a stronger screw from which the rig would be
suspended. If you bought a servo separately, I believe you would need to
modify it to turn 360 degrees. Putting the kit together and getting the
cameras lined up and working probably took me an hour and a half or so.

I recently bought an electronic timer control device for my camera and
had quite a fun flying in front of the gear. However, if the wind blew
north that day there would be more nice pictures. The way it was I had
to face the sun and from over 200 images taken only a few showed me with
the kite. The good thing is no one has to be present besides the kite
flyer! :))

I recently
bought a used low wind/no wind Ozone by Prism so I will try it at the
nearest sports field.
I don't have an Ozone myself, but a couple of friends do. They have a lot of
fun when there is no, or just a little, wind. If you find you have to run
backwards faster than you want to, use shorter lines.
Post by Tom D
Meanwhile I try flying at some heavily weed
overgrown fields.
If you want to fly tricks, you will find that you are spending a lot of time
on the ground. Doing that on a weedy field is really no fun, as the lines
get caught in the weeds, and also it is difficult to move the kite into a
position so that you can take off again.
You have my sympathy.

No problem, Stuart.
The photos are there again, only three but...
For some time I have been trying to build my website but without
success. I wanted to share my hobbies with others and finally someone
sugested Joomla! which is just super! At this moment my site is very
modest and only in Polish, but in the future there will probably be more
and there will be an English version!
Please, visit: fly.hme.pl
Greetings!
