Shalom,
My latest project was trying to make a big kite that will fold into a
small space, including the rods.
I have made a 1 meter high sled from Tyvek. I tried flying it but it
folded and didn't hold the wind. It needed a rod. but I didn't want to
use a rod.
Then an idea struck me. What I wanted was a folding rod.
I cut two 1m long strips from a tape measure, added two sleeves to the
sled and put the strips inside the sleeves. The convex side of the
strip faces the wind. The tape is 1.5 cm wide.
The sled flew beautifully even in strong wind.
The kite now can be folded because the tape is flexible on the concave
side.
Isn't this a great idea?

Good winds,
Hanan Cohen
p.s. I tried finding in rec.kites to see if this was mentioned here
before but could not find any so I am posting this message. I am sure
I am not the first person in kiting history to come up with this idea.
