Hi,
I would be glad of any tips that would help me to avoid smashing my kite
(twin line, freestyle) into the ground.
I know what I should do (step forward, hands forward => kite lands gently on
its belly.
My problem is remembering that soon enough. How do you do it ?

why not practice the move while you still have the kite under control?
(preferably on a day that is not too windy)

also, you do not say what kite you have, how you have it adjusted, or
what length lines you use.

you may find some useful tips on our club website "Newbies Page"

OK Dicky, I've read the newbies page - here is the list of things I was
doing wrong:
Lines too short (18m)
Kite's a Ferrari (JoE Talon)
It was too windy
I was standing in sheep sh*t

I think I should imagine that the ground is a few meters higher than it
actually is, and try not crashing into that.

Just push or pull one hand more than second to loose the wind. But
still go forwards. Do not fly in higher winds if you have a smaller
kite. Reactions are slower than speed of kite.

LOL - that is one of the "special features" about flying kites in UK,
I guess - wherever you go, there is a rich and endless variety of
animal spoor to tiptoe through and try not to land the kite in!

Margam Park = deer
Eggardon hill = sheep (and potholes big enough for sheep to hide in)
Corfe Common = horses and cattle
Baiter park = Canada geese + dogs (and grockles in summer)

-- you can always tell when somebody has been buggying (or boddy
skidding) at Baiter in the wet winter months - just be sure not to
stand too close when you pass comment!

If you want to see a lot of kite fliers in action, and meet a huge
number of experienced fliers then check out the calendar of kite
festivals here http://www.kitecalendar.co.uk/
