Does anyone else here remember the first kite they made without adult
help?

Being an independent boy I made my first kite out of brown paper, string
and bamboo (yes, really). I also tried to fly it back to front and
wasn't happy when my father pointed out it was the wrong way around.

Yep, I remember my first kite that I made -- known as a bat-a-bow-a
kite if I recall correctly. A bowed kite made from wooden spars,
string and brown paper -- and no tail. And the whole thing was painted
black.

I actually won a kite flying competition at school with it. The winds
were light and my kite was the only one that reliably flew! I had to
win didn't I?!? ;-) That was back in about 1982.

I tried to find the design on the web recently, but it appears to have
disappeared into the mists of time.

REx.

1 x Prism Stylus P3
1 x Premier Kites Speed Foil 1x
1 x High as a Kite Rascal Stunt Kite
1 x HQ Ready Sleddy
3 x miscellaneous deltas
4 x bargain shop stunters (they fly well!)
3 x bargain shop diamonds (they fly crap ...)

Yes. I used a sheet of binder paper, bamboo skewers, heavy thread, and a
paper clip to connect the bridle to the fly line.

I flew it out our apartment window while my folks were at work and I was
supposed to be staying in to do homework.
