A MAN has died after being electrocuted while trying to use a metal
pole to retrieve a stray kite from power lines on a property in
Queensland.

A Queensland Emergency Services spokeswoman said the man was
electrocuted at Sarre Station, south of Richmond , north-west
Queensland, about 7:30pm yesterday.

Paramedics tried desperately to revive him but were unsuccessful.

How stupid can you be? Firstly flying a kite near powerlines. And then
using a metal pole to get a kite out of powerlines.

Condolences to his family.

According to news accounts, the man's 11-year-old son had been flying
the kite, and witnessed the tragedy. Australia has a "Look Up and
Live" campaign to educate folks as to the danger involved when kites
and electric lines cross, sad that it wasn't effective in this case.

I have been flying for year, but am still astounded at the lack of
respect people show big kites.

My neighbours lad (25ish) got a new kite for Christmas and shattered
his collar bone flying it for the first time on Boxing Day. Sad cos it
was blowing a gale and I would have lent him a smaller rig for that
wind but they did not knock,
