Have any suggestions for a light wind kite? 1-7 mph range.

I have a kite that works at 5 and up, but we get a lot of days where there
is very little wind.

Thanks

There's plenty out there. It depends on how big of a sail you want.

Check online stores under the section of Ultra light kites.

Thank you for responding.

I've looked at the stores and they all say good things about the various
ultra-lite kites.

I'd would like comments from the hands-on users. Those comments may be
biased towards the kites they use, but at least it is from users, not the
hype from the kite makers.

I am hoping for a kite that is not a monster 10 foot thing, but being new to
kiting, maybe that is what I have to get. Hope it costs less than a hundred
dollars. I am old retired guy and money is not plentiful.

My first and only kite is a NewTech "Cherry Bomb," and I am having a lot of
fun with it. It makes me want to try new things.

Hope this makes sense.

Some fliers are very religious when it comes to kite manufacturers.
Some swear oaths to Prism kites while I don't.

Usually for under a $100 there are small sales 5ft or less. They are
more for indoor. The Sky Burner i-Nak and Nik Nak are great.

If you like NewTech kites check out the DESIRE UL.

You may care to investigate fighter kites. They're not only used for
fighting. That's just a generic name we get from their origins.
We can fly them in lower winds than any other type of kite without
having to run around backwards.

And talk about cheap! You can make your own out of giftwrap or plastic
shopping bags and tape or contact cement you have laying around the house.

There are some available commercially, and any kite shop or web site
worth their salt will have a couple available. A sturdy rip-stop
version would be best for learning with, but they will take a bit
more wind to lift. Mylar and paper fighters will fly in the lightest
winds but they are a bit more fragile.

Hi Fred,

If you are looking for a affordable dual line ultra light wind kite, you
should have a look at the "Drachenkiste Sweety" ( available e.g. at
kiteshoppe.com in the states and several european kite shops ).

I am biased in this question, as I have co-developed that kite. However, I
really don't know ultra-light wind kites which are similar cheap and
quality build (hand made in Germany).

It was planed to fly indoor (Absolutely no wind at all), but many owners do
fly it outdoor at the evening when the wind is nearly down to nothing.

Cheers,

Daniel

Fred,

The Sky Burner iNak and NikNak are both great kites and pretty
durable. Also, the Prism Flashback. You should also check out the
New Tech Desire UL. I have flown all of them and they will give you a
decent kite that lets you fly in very light winds. None of these are
very trickable, but you'll at least be able to fly. They all sell for
around $100 +/-.

If you want to move up a bit, you could try something like the
Freestylist UL from Sky Burner, or a Silver Fox UL or Acrobatx UL from
Flying Wings. Moving up will let you start doing more tricks even
when the wind is pretty low.
