Post by Fred ScharmannI'd would like comments from the hands-on users. Those comments may
be biased towards the kites they use, but at least it is from users,
not the hype from the kite makers.
I am hoping for a kite that is not a monster 10 foot thing, but being
new to kiting, maybe that is what I have to get. Hope it costs less
than a hundred dollars. I am old retired guy and money is not
plentiful.
You may care to investigate fighter kites. They're not only used for
fighting. That's just a generic name we get from their origins.
We can fly them in lower winds than any other type of kite without
having to run around backwards.
And talk about cheap! You can make your own out of giftwrap or plastic
shopping bags and tape or contact cement you have laying around the house.
There are some available commercially, and any kite shop or web site
worth their salt will have a couple available. A sturdy rip-stop
version would be best for learning with, but they will take a bit
more wind to lift. Mylar and paper fighters will fly in the lightest
winds but they are a bit more fragile.
