Hi All,

Not sure if this is the right place but I was wondering if anyone
would have an idea what would be the smallest kite practical for some
buggying?

The reason I ask is I've bought a Peter Lynn folder off a mate and it
came with a Flexi Super 10. I believe he was sold them as a pair but I
already have a Super 10 and am not sure it's powerful enough?

I also have a biggish Wallend Air two line kite that is a bit of a
beast but wondered if it would be to slow for buggying? Is also
doesn't seem to have any way of 'de-powering' but I've just spotted
this on the web ..

http://home.iprimus.com.au/extralite/wallendair.html

That seems to show a de-powering system, probably something I should
have if buggying?

All the best ..

p.s. I have been building and flying (basic) kites for 40 years or so
;-)

For me, there is only two ways to have de-powering capable
kites, if we except some water oriented too big things; they are
also the secure way of making buggy...:

- the two lines kites, as the first Flexifoil kites, PL Peels,
various deltas, where the power is adjustable using the kite speed;

- The Revolution way, with essentially the PowerBlast 4-8, or
stacks of others models, power four lines kites where we can
*really* adjust the power, like on every other sailing machine...

So, your Super 10 will be probably OK in relativly strong wind,
but with two of them in a stack, you probably be able to buggy
in more soft winds...

Understood, like the sheets on a sailing boat etc.

Ok thanks, we have quite a selection of Flexi's so I could play with
different combinations ;-)

Thanks for the links Sylvain (I can't read the text though, I'm
English so we don't bother learning other languages do we) ;-(

All the best and thanks for your input ..

I've buggied at speed with a Flexi 6 before :o)

Trouble with the 6 or 10 is being two lined you have little control compared
to the four lined kites that are usually used to power a buggy.

Really! Was it very flat or even downhill! I was talking to a mate
yesterday who has just one 6' Flexi and he was saying how hard it
pulled .. maybe after flying stacks of 6's or the 8-12's we have
forgotten now ..?

That was what I was thinking.

Maybe if we all like this kite buggy lark (and that will probably be
based on finding somewhere suitable to use it) then we may well invest
in something more suitable kitewise ..

So that would be ...?

All the best ..

On a beach in the South East - the wind was going some at the time :o)

Yes - somewhere that's not had a ban....... but that's topic that's been
done to death :o)

Ah, I guess we are talking places not kites with the banning thing (I
was asking about kites with my 'So that would be?' so sorry for the
confusion).

That has made me think though, (although I was just asking about
'suitable' places rather than going deeper and asking / thinking about
'permitted' places at that point) and would those discussions still be
here (if that's were they were discussed)?

Should I just put this buggy on eBay and forget the whole idea if I'm
unlikely to find anywhere to use it? (I'm very new to the whole buggy
scene).

All the best ..

<High 5's the other big lad> ;-)

The other issue (and something I've had to contend with most of my
life) is that I'm 6'2" and seem to be awkwardly long with it (like all
arms and legs).

Hmm.

I think I'll first just see if there are any places locally that are
reasonably suitable and just see if there any formal signs
specifically excluding kites and or buggies. I try to pick times when
the parks would be quiet in any case, even for just kite flying. If
there are any issues and the Ranger comes over it's my experience so
far that if you are polite and stop and pack up etc then they are
generally ok (it being your first time etc).

After that I'll test my farmer connections and see if there might be
the odd private field that could be used etc. Failing all that, eBay
it is ;-(

All the best ..

The trouble with farmland is the ground is generally very uneven compared to
your average park or beach.

Good point. Maybe I'll start a new 'off road' division of the sport!

<thinks> .. Hmm, 18" travel suspension, 15" rims, roll bar .... 10m^2
kite ... ;-)

All the best ..

Go look at the Flexifoil forums, you'll find plenty of advice and
suggestions there, also a number of site too.
